When everyone returned to class in early Jan of 2018, a big surprise was waiting to be revealed! I had completely remastered the yoga & core classes in order to elevate the individual and collective experience! In a previous posting, I have described in greater detail how my classes have changed. For this posting, I would like to share the inspiration behind the changes.
As of 2018, I've been teaching group mind-body classes (aerobics, ski fitness, core ball, pilates & yoga) for 30 years! From this place of celebration, I decided it was time to reflect on my teaching journey and get curious about what my intentions were for the coming years. As we did not have any classes in December 2017, I took that space as an opportunity to immerse myself as a student and participate in as many classes as I could throughout Vancouver and New York City! I tried bootcamp style fitness classes that were high on pain and low on soul. I joined a spinning class that was set to really loud music in a darkened room. I participated in an array of yoga classes, including hot yoga, vinyasa, kundalini, deeply spiritual yoga classes, purely physical yoga, and very sleepy yoga classes. I experimented with creative dance movement classes such as 5Rhythms and Nia. I even twirled around a pole in high heels (tantra fitness).
In addition to this glorious "teacher as student" adventure, I also had the life inspiring opportunity to attend an Intro Event at the Mama Gena School of Womanly Arts in New York City. Together with 1,500 other women from all over the world, we experienced a rock concert like empowerment weekend celebrating sisterhood, the women's movement, and the divine feminine. Mama Gena called 2018 "The Year of Woman Rising". On the eve of my new year class launch, Oprah Winfrey became the first black woman to win the Cecil B DeMiller (Golden Globe) award for her contribution to the world of entertainment. Her rousing acceptance speech ended with "A new day is on the horizon!"
30 years of teaching meets an uprising.
And Elevation becomes the new intention.
Elevation of our minds. Elevation of our moods. Elevation of our energy through movement.
More music. More sweat. More e-motion. More connection.
I know I'm not alone in saying that "The Year of Woman Rising" is palpable.
I hope that my classes will not only contribute to the upspiral of the woman's movement, but will also elevate an all-inclusive world call for 2018 to be "The Year of Consciousness Rising!"
