"I do whatever I need to do to keep my inner world peaceful.
My inner peace is essential for my health & well-being." - Louise Hay
All The Hemispheres
Leave the familiar for a while.
Let your senses and bodies stretch out
Like a welcomed season
Onto the meadow and shores and hills..
Open up to the Roof.
Make a new watermark on your excitement
Like a blooming night flower,
Bestow your vital fragrance of happiness
Upon our intimate assembly.
Change rooms in your mind for a day.
All the hemispheres in existence
Lie beside an equator
In your heart.
In your thousand other forms
As you mount the hidden tide and travel
All the hemispheres in heaven
Are sitting around a fire
While stitching themselves together
Into the Great Circle inside of
(translation by Daniel Ladinsky)

When I run after what I think I want,
my days are a furnace of stress and anxiety;
if I sit in my own place of patience,
what I need flows to me, and without pain.
From this I understand that what I want
also wants me, is looking for me & attracting me.
There is a great secret here for anyone who can grasp it.
SA - TA - NA - MA Meditation
SA - TA - NA - MA Meditation is becoming scientifically recognized as a powerful tool for increasing all aspects of cognitive function (perception, thinking, reasoning, remembering) as well as for stress reduction. The Canadian Alzheimer Society is now recommending this meditation as a daily practice to enhance short term memory and slow down the effects of Alzheimer's disease.
The SA - TA - NA - MA sounds come from one of the oldest Sanskrit mantras Sat Nam = my "true essence" or "true identity". SA - TA - NA - MA is an acknowledgement of the circle of life (birth, life, death, rebirth or the infinite). When toning the sounds in combination with particular hand gestures or mudras, we invite the following interpretations to manifest:
SA - thumb and index finger; seal of knowledge / expanded field of possibilities
TA - thumb and middle finger; seal of patience
NA - thumb and ring finger; seal of vitality and aliveness
MA - thumb and pinky finger; seal of mental clarity and clear communication
What makes a fire burn
is space between the logs,
a breathing space.
Too much of a good thing,
too many logs
packed in too tight
can douse the flames
almost as surely
as a pail of water would.
So building fires
to the spaces in between,
as much as to the wood.
When we are able to build
in the same way
we have learned
to pile on the logs,
then we can come to see how
it is fuel, and absence of the fuel
together, that make fire possible.
We only need to lay a log
lightly from time to time.
simply because the space is there,
in which the flame
that knows just how it wants to burn
can find its way.

This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they are a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing and invite them in.
Be grateful for whatever comes
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.

Welcome friends and newcomers to the Winter 2017 session of classes! I am overflowing with joy and excitement for this season's unfolding, which I have thematically titled... FLOETRY!
At the most basic level, Floetry is the combination of flow and poetry. At a more meaningful level, I have defined Floetry as being a practice for exploring and expressing life energy as a poetic flow of body, mind, and spirit.
The analogy of our classes as poetry will be visited through the following 3 practices:
1) the utilization of diverse movement styles (vinyasa / flow, kundalini, yin, hatha, pilates, dance) & various movement rhythms
2) the exploration of symbolism for the expression of emotion & ideas (postures / asana, hand seals / mudras, chakras / emotional-energetic centres of the body)
3) the mindful application of language (sanskrit, affirmations & mantras, chanting / toning)
In the first week of classes, the affirmation offered was:
"I create with love and joy the New Year and the New Me!" - Louise Hay
If you are more floetically inclined, try adding to the affirmation the prefix "co" as in:
"I co-create with love and joy the New Year and the New Me!"
Over the course of this season, you are invitied to share with myself poetry that has spoken to your heart, mind, and spirit. Let's celebrate together this dance of life that I'm calling Floetry!
